Waxing

Waxing is a popular method for removing body hair. It involves applying wax to the skin, letting it grip the hair, then quickly removing it so the hair comes away from the root.

Waxing removes hair from the root, so visible regrowth generally takes longer to return than it does after shaving. It’s a good option if you want smooth skin for several weeks without committing to a course of laser hair removal or electrolysis.

The results of waxing typically last 2 to 4 weeks, depending on your individual hair growth cycle. Since the hair is removed from the root, it takes longer to grow back compared to shaving, where hair regrowth is more noticeable within a few days.

Waxing involves removing hair from the root, so you will feel it, particularly in more sensitive areas. How uncomfortable it feels varies by person, treatment area and hair growth. Our therapists work quickly, use techniques suited to the area and check your comfort throughout the appointment.

Hot wax is temperature-checked before application and should feel warm rather than excessively hot on the skin.

Your therapist will choose the technique according to the treatment area, your hair and your skin rather than using exactly the same approach for every wax.

Hot wax is applied directly to the treatment area, allowed to set and then removed without a paper or fabric strip. It’s often chosen for smaller and more sensitive areas, including intimate waxing.

Strip wax, sometimes called warm wax, is applied thinly and removed using a strip. It works efficiently across larger areas such as the legs and arms.

Different waxes can be used during the same appointment depending on the areas being treated.

Appointment times vary by treatment area, but as a guide:

• Face: For treatments such as the upper lip, it generally takes about 10 minutes. If you opt for a full face wax, it may take around 20 minutes.
• Upper body: Treatment areas like underarms typically take up to 10 minutes. If you’re getting your full arms waxed, it may require approximately 25 minutes.
• Lower body: Most lower body treatments take up to 30 minutes.
• Full body: If you’re looking to get a wax for your entire body, you should allow up to 1 hour and 45 minutes for the session.

Yes. Please tell us before your appointment if the treatment area is sunburnt, broken, irritated or infected, or if you have a medical condition, medication or skincare routine that could affect how your skin responds to waxing.

This can be especially important if you are using isotretinoin, prescription retinoids, topical retinoids, steroid creams or other treatments that can make the skin more fragile. Recent peels, laser treatments or other resurfacing treatments may also mean you need to wait before waxing.

Waxing can usually be carried out during pregnancy, although hormonal changes can make your skin more sensitive than usual. Let us know that you’re pregnant when you book so we can make the appointment as comfortable as possible and check whether there is anything else we need to consider.

We also offer waxing appointments designed with expectant mothers in mind later in pregnancy.

Yes. You can still have a waxing appointment during your period. For intimate waxing, please wear a clean tampon or menstrual cup. You may find the area feels a little more sensitive at certain points in your cycle, so let our therapist know if you need a pause.

Your hair needs to be long enough for the wax to grip it effectively. If you’ve recently shaved, allowing a few weeks of growth before your appointment will typically give a better result. Growth rates differ, so contact us if you’re unsure whether your hair is ready to wax.
