FAQ’s Laser Hair Removal

Ask Us

WHICH SKIN TONES AND HAIR TYPES CAN BE TREATED WITH LASER?

Laser hair removal is suitable for men and women of all skin types for all areas of the face and body.

When laser hair removal was first developed 20 years ago it only worked on dark hair and light skin. Technology has evolved massively and more powerful lasers with adjustable wavelengths have been developed making it safe and effective to remove hair from any type of skin whether it’s light or dark hairs.

Is laser hair removal painful?

There is no discomfort involved during your laser hair removal sessions due to the advanced technology in our lasers that continuously cools the skin throughout the entire treatment.

Be assured you are in safe hands as the temperature remains controlled and constant so you can enjoy a completely pain-free, cool and comfortable experience throughout the session.

When can I see the results?

Results are visible around your third treatment. Hairs that are richer and have deeper roots will take longer for noticeable results.

Please note: In some cases, the hairs may return due to Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS).

How many sessions will I need?

For the best results, we recommend a course of 6-8 treatments with a gap between each appointment of 4 weeks.

The duration of the course will depend on the hair growth cycle. Hair grows in 3 stages: growing, resting and transitional, and hair can only be targeted by the laser if it is at the growing stage, so not all hairs can be targeted in a single treatment. Your therapist will advise you at your consultation on the best course for you to achieve optimum results.

CAN I HAVE LASER HAIR REMOVAL WITH A SUNTAN?

We are able to treat dark and tanned skin. So you can start your laser hair removal any time of the year.

Our highly trained therapist will select the wavelength to avoid the top layers of your skin which means we can safely continue with your treatment without having to wait for your suntan to fade

Please note: during your consultation your therapist may decide that your skin is unsuitable for treatment, for example, if there is evidence of sunburn.

WILL I NEED TOP-UP SESSIONS?

Top-up treatments are recommended after a year of completing a full set of laser sessions.

How do I prepare for laser hair removal?

In order for the laser to be most effective it requires the hair follicle to be present in order to be targeted. We require you to shave the treatment area carefully, avoiding cutting yourself, the day before your appointment.

Since waxing removes hairs with follicles it is recommended to wait two weeks before attempting laser hair removal, should the area have been waxed within this time.

DO MEDICAL CONDITIONS PREVENT YOU FROM HAVING LASER HAIR REMOVAL?

There are some health conditions that can prevent you from having laser treatment. Please book a consultation to discuss this.

CAN I HAVE LASER HAIR REMOVAL WHILST PREGNANT?

Although there is no evidence to suggest that laser hair removal is not safe for an unborn baby or the mother, we recommend that you wait until after childbirth before considering a laser procedure.

HOW DO I PREPARE FOR MY TREATMENT?
  1. Do not expose skin to UV (sun exposure or the use of tanning beds) or self-tan for at least 4 weeks before and/or between IPL treatments.
  2. Use appropriate SPF protection but not 24 hours before treatment.
  3. For permanent hair reduction, do not depilate with waxing, plucking or threading (shaving is acceptable) before and/or between laser/IPL treatments.
  4. Avoid swimming in strongly chlorinated water immediately before a Laser/IPL treatment session.
  5. Avoid exfoliating, microdermabrasion or peels for 1 week before treatment sessions (always check with the manufacturer’s guidelines).
  6. Avoid wearing tight clothing in the treatment area if appropriate.
  7. Keep the treatment area clean and dry.
  8. Hydrate the body by drinking plenty of water and avoid any heat-related treatments such as exercising, saunas etc., immediately prior to treatment.
  9. Hot and humid weather conditions can aggravate the skin in the period immediately before treatment.
WHAT AFTERCARE DO I NEED TO DO?
  1. Do not expose skin to UV (sun exposure or the use of tanning beds) or self-tan for at least FOUR weeks,
  2. For Permanent hair reduction, do not shave for at least 48 – 72 hrs after treatment (or if any irritation or reaction occurs)
  3. Do not depilate between IPL treatments (with waxing, plucking, threading or creams) – shaving is always advised to ensure balanced regrowth
  4. For Permanent hair reduction, do not use deodorants or perfumed products in the treatment area for 24 – 48 hours post-treatments
  5. Avoid very hot baths/showers/ steam baths/saunas for 1 week or longer if irritation or reaction occurs
  6. Avoid swimming in strongly chlorinated water or very exertive exercise for 1 week – depending on the skin’s reaction
  7. Avoid rough sports for at least 24 – 48 hours depending on the skin’s reaction,
  8. Avoid professional exfoliating, microdermabrasion or peels during treatment sessions (always check with the manufacturer’s guidelines)
  9. Do not pick or scratch the treated area, any prolonged redness or irritation should subside with continued post-cooling at home
  10. Keep the treatment area clean and dry.
  11. Hydrate the body by drinking plenty of water and avoid any heat-related treatments such as exercising, saunas etc., immediately after the treatment.
  12. Use of sunblock min SPF 30+ and consider using protective cotton clothing for exposed treated areas.
  13. Advise the clinic/salon within 24-48 hours if an adverse reaction occurs. If returning to the clinic/salon is not immediately possible, a photograph of the reaction should be submitted immediately.
  14. Hot and humid weather conditions can aggravate the skin in the period immediately following treatment. Immediately post-hair reduction treatments, effective skin cooling can be helpful. The use of ice or cooling gel packs, a chilled sterilised cloth, Aloe Vera gel etc., can improve skin comfort and reduce any swelling or post-treatment redness or oedema. Do not use ice directly on the skin.

Best wax I have ever had! Linzi was personable, professional, caring & welcoming. I had the ‘Full Monty’ with their own wax, which was painless and left my skin feeling soft & smooth. Linzi also gave me an aftercare package! Such a lovely and personal touch to a great experience. Couldn’t recommend Linzi and LuxWax more!

They are professional, do a great job and are nice - a truly “often imitated but never equalled” great experience. I was looking to change from a salon in the West End I used to go to.
