Electrolysis Treatment

The only FDA-approved permanent hair removal method that is safe to use on all skin types
Experience the power of Electrolysis at LuxWax – our permanent hair removal solution. Electrolysis is not only highly effective at removing unwanted hair, it is also exceptionally comfortable.

Electrolysis for hair removal introduces a gentle electrical current, directly to the hair follicles that are in the growth stage. This permanently stops hair growth in the follicles that are treated.
This precision approach to hair removal allows our skilled therapists to remove or shape hair on the face and body with pinpoint accuracy.

Electrolysis is particularly beneficial for individuals with grey or white hair that cannot be effectively addressed through laser hair removal.

    Before Your Electrolysis Appointment

To ensure the best possible results from your electrolysis session, a few simple preparations can make a significant difference. Prior to your appointment, it is recommended to avoid sun exposure and tanning beds, as well as the use of self-tanning products.

Additionally, refrain from plucking, waxing, or using depilatory creams in the treatment area for a few weeks leading up to your session. This allows the hair follicles to be in their natural growth phase, enabling the electrolysis process to effectively target them.

Our knowledgeable team will provide you with detailed instructions and answer any questions you may have during your consultation, ensuring you are fully prepared for your electrolysis appointment.

    During Your Electrolysis Appointment

When you arrive at a LuxWax salon for your electrolysis treatment, our skilled practitioners will guide you through a comfortable and efficient process. The duration of the appointment varies depending on the size of the treatment area and the density of hair, typically ranging from 15 minutes to an hour.

Electrolysis involves the precise application of a low-level electrical current to the hair follicles, targeting the growing portion and disabling their ability to produce hair permanently.

Our experts utilise advanced techniques and state-of-the-art equipment to ensure accuracy and minimise discomfort during the procedure. You can rest assured that you are in safe and capable hands throughout your electrolysis session at LuxWax.

    After Your Electrolysis Appointment

Aftercare is an essential aspect of maximising the benefits of your electrolysis treatment. Following your session, you may experience temporary redness or slight swelling in the treated area, but these effects usually subside within a few hours.

It is crucial to avoid sun exposure, hot showers, saunas, and swimming pools for at least 24 hours post-treatment to protect the treated skin.

Our team will provide you with specific aftercare instructions, including the use of soothing creams or gels and the gentle cleansing of the treated area.

It is important to follow the recommended Electrolysis aftercare instructions to reduce the risk of side effects and enhance the long-lasting results.

The Benefits of Electrolysis Hair Removal

Electrolysis is recognised as the only permanent hair removal method approved by the FDA and British Medical Association, perfect for clients seeking a truly lasting solution.

Here’s why our clients love treatment at our electrolysis salon:

    Permanent Results

Unlike laser hair removal, which reduces hair growth over time, electrolysis eliminates unwanted hair for good. By targeting the hair follicle with precision electrical currents, we prevent future regrowth – no matter your hair colour or skin type.

Suitable for All Skin & Hair Types

Many hair removal treatments struggle with fine, blonde, grey, or red hairs, but electrolysis works on every hair colour and skin tone. Whether you have fair thin hair or coarse dark hair, this treatment guarantees lasting results.

    Safe & Clinically Proven

Electrolysis has been used for over a century, continuously evolving to become safer, more comfortable, and highly effective. It’s an FDA-approved method with an excellent track record for permanent hair removal.

    Precision & Versatility

Our electrolysis experts can shape and sculpt your hair to meet your goals. From shaping the perfect brows to removing unwanted facial and body hair, electrolysis offers unmatched precision. It can treat any area, including the face, bikini line, underarms, and even delicate areas where other treatments might not be suitable.

    No More Ingrown Hairs

Shaving can cause irritation and ingrown hairs, especially in sensitive areas. Electrolysis eliminates hair at the root, preventing regrowth that leads to bumps, redness, or discomfort.

    Suitable For Men & Women

Electrolysis is an ideal solution for both men and women looking for permanent hair removal. Whether you’re refining facial hair, shaping your brows, or tackling larger areas like the chest or back, this treatment is equally effective across all hair types and body areas.

Women often choose electrolysis for facial hair, bikini lines, and underarms, while men frequently opt for beard sculpting, neck hair removal, or smooth, hair-free torsos. Whatever your needs, our expert practitioners tailor each treatment to suit your unique hair growth patterns and aesthetic goals.

    Electrolysis Treatment Areas

We are electrolysis specialists, offering a selection of treatments for both men and women.

    Face & Neck

Electrolysis is ideal for hair removal on the face for both men and women. It allows for the precise targeting of facial hair, for permanent hair removal results.

Electrolysis can be used anywhere on the face to eliminate unwanted hair growth. This is particularly popular for men who want to style their facial hair on the chin and jawline, reducing the need for shaving.

    Upper Body

Electrolysis can be used to treat hair on the chest, abdomen, or breasts, offering permanent hair removal. For larger areas, we usually recommend splitting treatment into a series of sessions to reduce skin irritation.

Electrolysis for upper body hair removal eliminates the need for frequent shaving while remaining suitable for sensitive areas. Local anaesthetic numbing gels can be used to treat more sensitive areas if desired.

    Bikini Line

Electrolysis ensures a smooth, hair-free bikini line without the need for regular maintenance or shaving.

Its precision ensures only the desired hairs are removed, helping clients achieve long-lasting results that feel natural, with minimal irritation risk in this delicate area.

Hands & Feet (Fingers & Toes)

Electrolysis can effectively remove hair from fingers and toes, areas where laser treatment may struggle due to fine or light-coloured hair.

These smaller treatment areas are the ideal candidates for electrolysis, requiring a relatively short treatment time while guaranteeing permanent results.

    Legs

Electrolysis is perfect for removing unwanted hair on the legs. This permanent hair removal treatment means no more shaving, leaving your legs super smooth without you having to lift a finger.

Electrolysis treatment for the legs often requires a series of sessions to avoid excessive skin irritation due to the large treatment area. Our therapists will be able to give you an accurate estimate of sessions during your consultation.

    Neckline & Hairline

Electrolysis can be used to shape the neckline and hairline with precision hair removal. This offers a great solution for those looking to remove stray or unwanted hair on the hairline or neckline to create a naturally shaped appearance that doesn’t require touch-ups.

    Electrolysis Vs Shaving

Shaving may be quick, but it’s a temporary fix that leads to stubble, irritation, and constant upkeep. Electrolysis, on the other hand, offers a permanent solution by targeting the root of the hair, preventing regrowth for good and offering a more bespoke, accurate treatment.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    is electrolysis permanent?

Electrolysis has the best track record for permanent hair removal. It is the only FDA approved method that is safe, effective and 100% permanent. Electrolysis is unlike laser hair removal which has only been around since year 2000 and so the long term side effects of laser hair removal are still being monitored. Electrolysis has a proven track record.

    does electrolysis hurt?

Electrolysis can cause some discomfort, but it varies from person to person. Some describe it as a stinging or pricking sensation, but numbing creams can be used to minimise any pain.

what areas can be treated with electrolysis?

Electrolysis works on any body area. Commonly customers have treatments on the face, such as upper lip, chin, cheeks, beard, eyebrows and the brow middle, breasts, underarms and pubic area.

how does electrolysis hair removal work?

Electrolysis hair removal works by inserting a tiny probe into each hair follicle and delivering a small electrical current to destroy the hair root. This process prevents future hair growth.

    what is electrolysis hair removal?

Electrolysis has been used for over 140 years to remove hair permanently. An experienced therapist would insert a tiny probe into the hair follicle and a high frequency alternating electrical current is applied. The electrical current heats up the surrounding tissue and disables the follicle, distorting it permanently.

how many electrolysis treatments are needed?

There are many factors that directly influence the number of treatments needed, such as:

    • Electrolysis can only be applied to a hair if it is in the anagen (growing) phase
    • Hormones
    • Medication
    • Hair density and size of the area treated
    • Skin sensitivity

Generally, treatments should be carried out in fortnightly intervals to ensure the visible hairs are in the anagen phase. As the treatments progress and the hair growth diminishes, treatment sessions will become shorter with longer gaps between sessions. Eventually, you will come back once a year for a “touch up” if any new hairs were to appear.

how much does electrolysis hair removal cost?

Check out our electrolysis price list to see how much we charge at Luxwax.

does electrolysis work on all hair and skin types?

Electrolysis is suitable for all hair and skin types. It can be used on any colour or thickness of hair and works effectively on various skin tones. It is considered a safe and permanent hair removal method for all individuals.

    How long does electrolysis take?

The time taken to complete electrolysis largely depends on the amount of hair and the treatment schedule you choose, but generally, it will take between 15 minutes and 1 hour. Keep in mind, that this is a permanent treatment. Although it may initially appear time-consuming, there is a definite endpoint at which the treatment area will be hair-free.

    Does electrolysis always work?

Yes, but not always on the first try. To understand this better, it helps to know how hair grows. Hair goes through three stages before falling out and starting over. The hair follicle is only present and susceptible to treatment during the first and possibly the second stage of growth.

Treating hair in the last phase is ineffective because there isn’t a follicle to target. Unfortunately, it’s impossible to determine the growth phase of individual hairs. This is why frequent treatments are important. If a hair is treated unsuccessfully and given too much time to grow again, it will enter its final (telogen) stage, where treatment is ineffective.

Is it possible to fully treat an area in a single treatment session?

Usually, it requires more than one treatment session. Most hair naturally grows very close together. Due to the treatment process involved in electrolysis, it is important to avoid “over-treating” an area. Over-treating an area can cause skin damage. We will suggest the most appropriate treatment schedule based on the treatment area.

What will my skin look like after electrolysis?

After treatment, it is normal to expect mild redness that can last for three to four hours. Applying makeup to the skin immediately after treatment is strongly discouraged.

    Can electrolysis cause scabbing?

It is very rare for electrolysis to cause scabbing. There are actually three ways in which electrolysis can be complete. The first two never usually cause scabbing but the last one, Galvanic electrolysis, can.

Although Galvanic electrolysis does cause scabbing it does have some benefits for some situations. This method uses a much lower and slower current and is more comfortable for areas like bikini lines. These are very small scabs that drop off quickly.

Why choose electrolysis over laser hair removal?

The main advantage of electrolysis is that it is the ONLY permanent hair removal method. Although lasers can remove a significant amount of hair quickly, and the hair stays away longer than with waxing or tweezing, it will eventually regrow.

Lasers are also nearly ineffective for light-coloured and white hairs.

What can I do to decrease the pain associated with electrolysis?

Most people become more relaxed with each treatment, naturally feeling more comfortable over time. However, it is possible to use over-the-counter pain relievers like Tylenol or Aspirin to ease the sensations. There are also various over-the-counter topical anesthetics that can be applied to the treatment area to reduce discomfort. We will do everything we can to ensure you are comfortable during your treatment at Luxwax.

    What is permanent hair removal?

Electrolysis is the only hair removal method currently recognised as permanent. It is the only way to remove hair permanently and safely. The goal is to treat the hair root, or papilla, to prevent regrowth of that specific hair. Your electrologist will insert a tiny probe into the natural follicle opening and treat each hair individually with a small electric pulse.

Can I go out in the sun after a treatment?

Direct sun exposure on treated areas is not recommended, as it can cause freckling that may take 6-12 months to fade. If you need to be in the sun, try to avoid direct exposure within 48 hours of a treatment. Please wear a hat or use sunscreen to protect your face.

How Many Electrolysis Sessions Are Needed for the Face?

The number of electrolysis sessions needed for the face varies depending on several factors, including the amount of hair, the thickness of the hair, and your individual hair growth cycle. In order to achieve complete hair removal it is normal for hair follicles to be targeted twice, with a higher density of hair requiring a higher number of treatments.

For complete hair removal on the face, it usually requires eight to twelve treatment sessions, which may sound like a lot, but it is important to consider this will achieve permanent hair removal. For a more accurate estimation of the required number of treatments, get in touch with one of our team today.

Can Electrolysis be used on public hair?

Yes, electrolysis can be used on pubic hair. Electrolysis is a safe and effective method for permanently removing hair from any part of the body, including the pubic area. Many people choose electrolysis for pubic hair removal because it offers permanent results. However, because the pubic area can be sensitive, it may be necessary for a higher number of shorter treatments when compared to other areas of the body. Speak to one of our team to discuss more about our electrolysis treatments.

Is anaesthetic used during electrolysis for sensitive areas?

For particularly sensitive areas we offer local anaesthetic numbing gels to remove any risk of pain. By using these gels, our patients report a completely pain-free treatment, even in delicate areas such as the upper lip.
