Electrolysis FAQs

Electrolysis has been used for over 140 years to remove hair permanently. An experienced therapist would insert a tiny probe into the hair follicle and a high frequency alternating electrical current is applied. The electrical current heats up the surrounding tissue and disables the follicle, distorting it permanently.

Electrolysis has the best track record for permanent hair removal. It is the only FDA approved method that is safe, effective and 100% permanent. Electrolysis is unlike laser hair removal which has only been around since year 2000 and so the long term side effects of laser hair removal are still being monitored. Electrolysis has a proven track record.

Electrolysis is suitable for all hair types and colours, and any skin type. Electrolysis is also the only method that works on grey hair.

There are many factors that directly influence treatment duration such as:

• Electrolysis can only be applied to a hair if it is in the anlagen (growing) phase
• Hormones
• Medication
• Hair density and size of the area treated
• Skin sensitivity
• Time between treatments

As a general rule treatments should be carried out in fortnightly intervals to ensure the visible hairs are in anlagen stage. As the treatment progresses and the hair growth diminishes, treatment sessions will become shorter with longer gaps between sessions. Eventually you will come back once a year for a “touch up” if any new hairs were to appear.

Electrolysis works on any body area. Commonly customers have treatments on the face, such as upper lip, chin, cheeks, beard, eyebrows and the brow middle, breasts, underarms and pubic area.

Keep the skin hydrated. Refrain from any temporary hair removal leading up to your appointment. No waxing, tweezing or shaving for at least 2-3 weeks prior to your electrolysis treatment.

In addition to personal hygiene, every therapist has a moral and legal obligation to ensure that the environment and procedures are hygienic and safe. All our equipment and materials used are cleaned, disinfected and sterilised to the appropriate standard. We use disposable probes and gloves which are disposed of immediately after each treatment.

All our waste is disposed of according to the environmental protection regulations 1991 and is collected and disposed of by a registered waste carrier.

Consultations consist of a number of questions to help us determine the most suitable treatment for you. This will include going over contra-indications that could prevent treatments being carried out. We will also carry out an investigation into your hair growth and discuss the treatment plans available to you.
