Laser Hair Removal in Hampstead

As the melanin absorbs this high-energy laser, it becomes heated, leading to the permanent impairment of the hair follicle while ensuring the surrounding skin remains unaffected. Throughout this procedure, the MeDioStar ensures the skin remains cool and comfortable thanks to its advanced continuous cooling features.

Visible results can typically be seen by the third session. Thicker hairs with deeper roots may require more time before noticeable changes are apparent.

It’s important to be aware that in certain instances, hair regrowth may occur as a result of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS).

To achieve optimal outcomes, we recommend undergoing 6-8 sessions, spacing each session 4 weeks apart.

The total number of treatments needed depends on the hair’s growth cycle, which consists of three phases: growth, resting, and transitional. Since the laser can only effectively target hair in the growth phase, not all hairs can be addressed in a single session. During your initial consultation, your therapist will recommend the most effective treatment plan tailored to ensure the best results for you.

Laser hair removal is appropriate for both men and women across all skin types, and it can be applied to any part of the face and body.

Initially, when laser hair removal was introduced two decades ago, it was effective only on light skin with dark hair. However, technological advancements have significantly enhanced the capabilities of these lasers, including the development of more potent lasers with tunable wavelengths. This progress has made it possible and safe to effectively remove hair from any skin type, regardless of whether the hair is light or dark.

We can accommodate both dark and tanned skin types, allowing you to begin your laser hair removal journey at any point throughout the year.

Our expertly trained therapists will adjust the laser’s wavelength to bypass the upper layers of your skin. This approach enables us to safely proceed with your treatment without the need to postpone until any suntan has diminished.

It’s important to mention that during your initial consultation, your therapist might determine your skin to be unfit for treatment, such as in cases where there is visible sunburn.

Top-up treatments are recommended after a year of completing a full set of laser sessions.

For the laser treatment to achieve maximum effectiveness, it’s essential that the hair follicle is intact for targeting. We ask that you shave the area to be treated with caution to avoid any cuts, ideally doing so the day before your scheduled appointment.

Because waxing pulls out hairs along with their follicles, it’s advised to wait two weeks after waxing before undergoing laser hair removal. This waiting period ensures that the hair follicles are present and can be effectively targeted by the laser.

There are some health conditions that can prevent you from having laser treatment. Please book a consultation to discuss this.

Although there is no evidence to suggest that laser hair removal is not safe for an unborn baby or the mother, we recommend that you wait until after childbirth before considering a laser procedure.

1. Do not expose skin to UV (sun exposure or the use of tanning beds) or self-tan for at least 4 weeks before and/or between IPL treatments.
2. Use appropriate SPF protection but not 24 hours before treatment.
3. For permanent hair reduction, do not depilate with waxing, plucking or threading (shaving is acceptable) before and/or between laser/IPL treatments.
4. Avoid swimming in strongly chlorinated water immediately before a Laser/IPL treatment session.
5. Avoid exfoliating, microdermabrasion or peels for 1 week before treatment sessions (always check with the manufacturer’s guidelines).
6. Avoid wearing tight clothing in the treatment area if appropriate.
7. Keep the treatment area clean and dry.
8. Hydrate the body by drinking plenty of water and avoid any heat-related treatments such as exercising, saunas etc., immediately prior to treatment.
9. Hot and humid weather conditions can aggravate the skin in the period immediately before treatment.

2. For Permanent hair reduction, do not shave for at least 48 – 72 hrs after treatment (or if any irritation or reaction occurs)
3. Do not depilate between IPL treatments (with waxing, plucking, threading or creams) – shaving is always advised to ensure balanced regrowth
4. For Permanent hair reduction, do not use deodorants or perfumed products in the treatment area for 24 – 48 hours post-treatments
5. Avoid very hot baths/showers/ steam baths/saunas for 1 week or longer if irritation or reaction occurs
6. Avoid swimming in strongly chlorinated water or very exertive exercise for 1 week – depending on the skin’s reaction
7. Avoid rough sports for at least 24 – 48 hours depending on the skin’s reaction,
8. Avoid professional exfoliating, microdermabrasion or peels during treatment sessions (always check with the manufacturer’s guidelines)
9. Do not pick or scratch the treated area, any prolonged redness or irritation should subside with continued post-cooling at home
10. Keep the treatment area clean and dry.
11. Hydrate the body by drinking plenty of water and avoid any heat-related treatments such as exercising, saunas etc., immediately after the treatment.
12. Use of sunblock min SPF 30+ and consider using protective cotton clothing for exposed treated areas.
13. Advise the clinic/salon within 24-48 hours if an adverse reaction occurs. If returning to the clinic/salon is not immediately possible, a photograph of the reaction should be submitted immediately.
14. Hot and humid weather conditions can aggravate the skin in the period immediately following treatment. Immediately post-hair reduction treatments, effective skin cooling can be helpful. The use of ice or cooling gel packs, a chilled sterilised cloth, Aloe Vera gel etc., can improve skin comfort and reduce any swelling or post-treatment redness or oedema. Do not use ice directly on the skin.
